2017年2月2日更新：据《纳尔逊报告》，德尚布雷是美国共和党海外委员会香港支部的“书记”，在2012年的总统大选中，他为共和党总统候选人罗姆尼募捐到不少政治现金。德尚布雷的夫人是美籍韩裔律师，他们是在哈佛大学法学院读书时相遇的。一位认识德尚布雷的人说，他非常勤奋，对亚洲地区的政治、经济和社会情况非常熟悉，对中国和韩国更是了如指掌。不过，他没有外交经验，需要很好的助手才能搞定这个差事。

美国之音报道说，雷克斯·蒂勒森周三晚上在得到参议院确认几小时后宣誓就任美国国务卿。
　　副总统彭斯在白宫椭圆形办公室主持蒂勒森的宣誓仪式，川普总统在旁观看。蒂勒森感谢川普给他他这个“巨大的机会”，并表示他将永远服务于美国人民的利益。
　　川普对蒂勒森表示祝贺，并指出这位新的国务卿在世界各地受到尊重，并将给全球外交带来他独特的技能和深刻的洞察力。
　　只有三名民主党参议员和一名无党派议员与团结一致的共和党议员一道支持蒂勒森，他的任命最终以56-43的投票得到确认。两党参议员花了几个星期来审视这位埃克森美孚公司首席执行官与俄罗斯总统普京的关系，以及他是否能将商业利益放在一边并担任美国最高外交官的能力。

随着蒂勒森的确认，特朗普的外交团队将会快速形成。今天的《纳尔逊报告》（Nelson Report）披露说，据传言，接替拉塞尔出任负责亚太事务的助理国务卿可能是在香港一家投资银行做合伙人德尚布雷（Michael DeSombre）。《纳尔逊报告》指出目前不清楚德尚布雷是怎么认识特朗普的。德尚布雷的最后一条推特发于1月26日，祝贺特朗普提名前在香港一家私募基金供事的飞利浦·比尔登（Philip Bilden）出任海军部长。

如果德尚布雷果真出任助理国务卿，他在香港的经历或许会影响他对中国的看法和决策。
