傅士卓（Joseph Fewsmith），芝加哥大学政治学博士，现为美国波士顿大学国际关系与政治学系教授、亚洲研究中心主任、哈佛大学费正清东亚研究中心兼职研究员。著有The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (2013)、Elite Politics in Contemporary China (2001), The Dilemmas of Reform in China (1994)及Party, State, and Local Elites in Republican China (1985)等中国政治研究专著，并发表数十篇学术论文于the China Journal, the China Quarterly, Current History, The Journal of Contemporary China, Problems of Communism, and Modern China等期刊，是比较政治学、中国政治及外交政策研究领域十分活跃的专家。
傅士卓教授主讲第四期“赵宝煦学术基金”系列讲座
2017年1月13日下午，第四期“北京大学赵宝煦学术基金系列讲座”在政府管理学院207会议室顺利举行。本期讲座由比较政治学、中国政治及外交政策领域著名专家、美国波士顿大学政治学系教授傅士卓教授（Joseph Fewsmith）主讲“政治科学与中国研究”，北京大学政府管理学院徐湘林教授担任主持人，张健副教授担任评议人。来自北大各院系以及其它兄弟院校的近80人聆听了傅士卓教授的讲演，并与几位老师进行了热烈的讨论。
讲座开始前，徐湘林教授向傅士卓教授授予了“赵宝煦学术基金杰出学者”的称号并赠予本次讲座的留念海报。傅士卓教授回忆了自己与赵宝煦先生和徐湘林教授的深厚情谊，表达了对北大政府管理学院和赵宝煦学术基金的敬意。
讲座中，傅士卓教授指出政治科学和中国研究是两个不同的研究领域。前者更加强调从对各国政治的研究中剥离出具有规律性且可以广泛适用的理论，而中国研究则针对一个相对具体的案例。他强调制度主义和历史在政治学和中国研究的重要性，以此较好地处理政治学和中国研究间的张力，将会获得众多的研究成果。随后，张健副教授对傅士卓教授的讲座进行了总结和回应。
在提问环节，三位老师与同学们进行了互动，就与讲座内容相关问题回答了学生提问，现场气氛十分热烈。最后，讲座在老师和同学们的掌声中圆满结束。

Joseph Fewsmith (傅士卓) is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently, The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (January 2013). Other works include China since Tiananmen (2nd edition, 2008) and China Today, China Tomorrow (2010). Other books include Elite Politics in Contemporary China (2001), The Dilemmas of Reform in China: Political Conflict and Economic Debate (1994), and Party, State, and Local Elites in Republican China: Merchant Organizations and Politics in Shanghai, 1890-1930 (1985). He is one of the seven regular contributors to the China Leadership Monitor, a quarterly web publication analyzing current developments in China.
Fewsmith travels to China regularly and is active in the Association for Asian Studies and the American Political Science Association. His articles have appeared in such journals as Asian Survey, Comparative Studies in Society and History, The China Journal, The China Quarterly, Current History, The Journal of Contemporary China, Problems of Communism, and Modern China. He is an associate of Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future at Boston University.

文章说，A prolific writer, Fewsmith has published 10 books on China including Forging Leninism in China: Mao and the Remaking of the Chinese Communist Party, 1927-1934 (Cambridge University Press, 2022); Rethinking Chinese Politics (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2021); and The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2013). He also served as series editor for a book series on Contemporary China and a member of the editorial board for numerous journals including The China Quarterly, The Journal of Contemporary China, and Journal of Asian Studies. Before joining academia, he worked in the industry as an analyst and then as a chief for the China division at Foreign Broadcast Information Service.
